History
South Point UMC was organized as a Sunday School in the summer of 1877. A group of interested people of South Point community met at Gaither's Factory, formerly called Stowesville Mill (according to Belmont History, was one of the first 3 mills in Belmont) which was a short distance from the present church.
The first building, a wooden frame structure with one large room and slab benches was completed in 1878. At this time, South Point Methodist Episcopal Church South was formed.
The current brick sanctuary was constructed in 1954. A larger fellowship hall and additional classes were added in 1987.
